Honda contracted with BE&K Giffels to provide the detail engineering for the second assembly plant. The expansion doubles the manufacturing capacity and is being constructed adjacent to the original plant. The new assembly line incorporates Honda’s new manufacturing system that allows for production flexibility based on customer demand.

The project team will expand existing operations in stamping, plastic injection molding, and die casting and machining for engines produced in the current facility. In addition, new process lines will be constructed for welding, painting, body assembly and engine assembly. The design was based on many of the features included in the original design, augmented with improvements made by Honda after the start-up of Plant 1 (1.7 million sq. ft.). This expansion will increase production to 300,000 vehicles and engines per year.
