Giffels, in joint venture with Acres and Associates Ltd., was awarded the turnkey design and construction of the North Deicing Facility at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The facility comprised of three deicing pads, each capable of handling two narrow-body or one wide bodied aircraft. The project also included a 10,000 sq. ft. three level control tower with control rooms and staff areas.
The total tank capacity for fresh glycol storage, type I and IV was 370,000 litres. Total storage capacity for spent glycol storage was 1,000,000 gallons for high concentrate and 4,300,000 gallons for low concentrate. All tank storage was designed below grade.
Giffels was responsible for:
• Design of the type I and type IV fresh glycol holding tanks and pad glycol
dispensing stations
• Waste / run-off glycol pad collection and glycol holding tank farm
• Automated Aircraft Guidance system
• Operations center and manpower facilities |
