Based on the success of the 900,000 sq. ft. Intermodal Distribution Centre in Vaughan, Ontario, Giffels was selected to design and construct a similar facility in western Canada. Strong existing relationships between Giffels, Sears, and Canadian Pacific Railway were instrumental in securing the ideal site adjacent to CP’s recently constructed Calgary Intermodal facility.
Patterned after the Vaughan facility, the distribution centre is located in Calgary’s newly created Dufferin Business Park. The facility consolidates the Sears Canada Inc. operations in Regina and Vancouver to capitalize on increased efficiencies and the intermodal shipment capability offered by CP Rail.
Special features include: a 40 ft. clear high bay pallet storage area with an automated Hi/Low lighting system, ESFR sprinkler system, cross dock with 120 truck level doors, extensive trailer parking, and extra deep shipping and receiving bays. |
