Located in Ottawa since 1991, Calgary based Smart Technologies had three different assembly facilities located within the region. When the company needed to expand its research and development, assembly, warehousing and administration operations to meet global demand for its wide range of education, training and collaboration products, Giffels were engaged to help identify the company's overall process requirements and secure a site to facilitate economies in production and administration.

Giffels acquired the land at 501 palladium Drive for its associated development company, IG Realty Investments Inc. and provided a complete integrated development, design, construction and logistics solution through a seamless single point of contact. The facility includes 40,000 sf of offices on 2 floors which include folding partitions for training rooms and extensive sound proofing in meeting rooms; 100,000 sf warehouse and a 100,000 sf manufacturing area which includes special humidification controls and web based management of integrated mechanical systems to tightly control environmental systems and conditions. The site also allows Smart technologies the flexibility of a future expansion(s).
