Bunkers Creek is situated within a highly urbanized area of Barrie. With ongoing development interests and drainage structure capacity concerns within the watershed, a Master Drainage Plan approach was undertaken to develop alternatives to correct system deficiencies and identify upgrading works as part of a Class Environmental Assessment program.
The study included a complete system inventory, detailed hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and an assessment of the existing drainage infrastructure. A detailed assessment of alternatives was undertaken for various improvement works to upgrade system deficiencies to meet the City's design standards. The detailed analytical and field work identified the causes and source of the problems, formulated suitable improvement works and developed appropriate stormwater management policies for new redevelopment proposals. Recommendations on phasing and implementation were also prepared.
The Master Drainage Plan study was conducted to meet the requirements of the first two stages of the Municipal Water and Wastewater Class Environmental Assessment. As part of the Class EA process, identification of the problems within the watershed and assessment of alternative solutions was undertaken for presentation to the public to solicit comments and concerns.
