Document Storage Facility / Archives ONE / Bolton ON98,000 square feet
Archives ONE was a P3 initiative for the Government of Ontario to design, build, finance and operate for a period of 25 years. The facility provides long term storage of archived documentation for the Province of Ontario. The selected consortium was comprised of Giffels providing design and construction, Archives ONE as owner/operator, and Canada Life as financer. Phase 1 has a storage capacity of 360,000 boxes for documents up to 300 years old and contains three independent cast-in-place concrete and concrete block vaults housed within a steel frame outer shell. Each vault has three levels of racking, with four hour fire resistant walls separating each vault providing a “museum quality”. A cool storage and freezer facility provides for the storage of film and audio tape. Phase 2, currently under construction adds another 240,00 boxes. Systems are designed for 100% redundancy. Laser detection systems at each level of storage, together with smoke detection and heat detection alarm systems provide a secure fire protection system.
