Diageo Canada Inc. (formerly known as Seagram Beverage LIquor Products) engaged Giffels to develop a 20-year expansion plan for their processes and facilities. Operations and marketing data was analyzed to develop the increased capacity requirement over the design period.

The team analyzed the basic process flows and identified key steps and limitations in receiving, blending, filling, finished product handling and warehouse layout that were constraining the planned growth. An advanced concept for computer-based production to balance blending capability versus warehouse inventory was also developed. Subsequently, the production flow and proposed facilities changes grew into a comprehensive long range business plan.

The new facilities layout and proposed expansion included expanded blending facilities, a three-phase improvement to the bottling lines, enhanced conveying, palletizing and case handling, and general site upgrades. Giffels project planning allowed Seagram to continue to meet their sales and profit margin objectives without interrupting production during construction. Giffels then worked with Seagram staff to develop, design and project manage several facilities additions to match the long term plan.
