Enerflex is a manufacturer of individually engineered 3000 hp natural gas pumps. These large totally contained skid mounted units pump natural gas through major pipelines across North America. Despite their large size, they must be completely built in the factory prior to shipping directly to the pipeline site.

Giffels designed a new more efficient production plant to produce pumps with at least a 50% increase in production capacity.

Giffels applied its proven "High Performance Flow Through Design" and "Lean Manufacturing" techniques to develop a more effective flexible plant. The new plant, built to Giffels design, has put Enerflex in a much more competitive position with lower costs and fast response to new orders. The improved simplicity of flow has also made the plant much more flexible to changes.

PROJECT DESIGN RESULTS

• Order throughput time reduced by 63%
• Direct labour reduction of 15% = 12,000 hr/mo
• Production cost savings = $4 million/year
• Plant floor space reduction greater than 20%
• Improved performance management
